Novella Bassano
Novella Bassano was born
in Rieti and studied Singing first at the school “G. O. Pitoni” of Rieti and
then at the Conservatorio “A. Casella” of L’Aquila, where she obtained a
diploma with honours.
She studied with
the mezzo-soprano Marina Gentile and specialized with Claudio Desderi,
Renato Bruson, Luigi Alva and William Matteuzzi.
She was among the finalist in the competitions As.Li.Co. in Milan, “Mario
Basiola” in Cremona, “Franesco Paolo Tosti” in Ortona, “Cascina lirica” in Pisa
(where she won an award as the youngest promising singer), and “Tito Gobbi” in
Bassano del Grappa.
She attended
the “Opera Workshop”, held by Claudio Desderi on
Così fan Tutte and Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart.
In
2000 she won the 54th competition “Comunità Europea” for young opera singers in
Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto, where she made her debut in
Le Cinesi by Gluck (in the part of Sivene) and in Carmen by
Bizet ( in the part of Frasquita), directed by Denis Krief, and in 2001, in
Il Mondo della luna by Haydn (playing the part of Flaminia), directed
by Lucio Gabriele Dolcini,
La serva padrona by Pergolesi (playing the part of Serpina), Il
segreto di Susanna by E. Wolf Ferrari (playing the part of Susanna),
directed by Giorgio Pressburger.
In May 2001,
she won first prize in the competition “Le voci nuove della lirica”, organized
by Asssociazione Museo “Enrico Caruso” of Milan.
In June 2006
she won the first prize in the competition “Mattia Battistini” of
Rieti.
She gives many
concerts and has collaborated with the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, conducted
by Francesco Vizioli, singing some of the most famous
Concert Arias by Mozart.
As soloist soprano,
she took part in the European Project of Transcription and Rielaboration of The
Art of Fugue by Bach, with partecipation of
Luciano Berio, also joining in the related tour across Europe,
in Lion , The Hague and London.
She often
collaborates with the F. P. Tosti National Institute in Ortona, wich in October
2001 sent her on a concert tour in Osaka,
Japan.
In 2002 she sang in
L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti (in the part of Adina),
directed by Ugo Gregoretti and conducted by Massimiliano Stefanelli, during the
opera season of Teramo.
She has been in
Japan with Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto, for a tour in the
cities of Tokio, Osaka, Kioto and Kobe. Then she played the part of Tonina in
Prima la musica poi le parole by Salieri during the Salieri Festival in
Legnago and she took part in
Motezuma by Paisiello (playing Erismena), performed in
Mexico City.
She played Norina
in
Don Pasquale by Donizetti, directed by Gianni Marras and
conducted by Laurent Campellone, during the season 2002 at the Teatro Lirico
Sperimentale of Spoleto.
In May 2003, she
sang in the part of Musetta in
Bohème by Puccini at Teatro Bonci in Cesena. In October 2003
she went in a
japanese concert tour in Tokio, Kioto, Hiroshima, and made her
debut as Violetta in the
La traviata by Verdi. In March 2004 she made her debut
as Gilda in
Rigoletto by Verdi, in collabration with
Accademia del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, conductor Giuseppe
Montanari. She played Maria in
La Figlia del reggimento by Donizetti in Bergamo, directed by
Ugo Gregoretti and conducted by Fabrizio Maria Carminati.
In 2005 at Teatro
Donizetti in Bergamo, she played the leading part in the opera based on
Donizetti’s life Il piccolo Cantore, music by Lucio Gregoretti, lyrics and
direction by Ugo Gregoretti. In 2006 she played again as Gilda in
Rigoletto with Renato Bruson in the title role, in
collaboration with
Accademia del Teatro alla Scala. Then she has been invited from
french theatre of Vienne, where, together with the tenor Aldo Di Toro and
Synaxis Orchestra conducted from Guillaume Bourgogne, she performed in an
concert based on romantic duet and belcanto.
In 2007 she played
the role of Adina,
with Bruno Praticò in the part of Dulcamara, in L’elisir
d’amore at Teatro della Fortuna in Fano. Recently she has been in
Brasil for a concert tour and opera performances, and she sang
also in the famous Amazonas Theatre in Manaus.
